PROVIDENCE— Anyone who thought The Big East wasn't an elite conference entering the 2016-17 season should be eating crow about now. Defending national champ Villanova has been ranked No. 1 for much of the season, and currently checks in at No. 4 in both major national polls (AP and USA Today/Coaches). Butler, Creighton and Xavier can also be found in the Top 25 in one (or both) polls. That's four teams in a 10-team conference - not exactly chopped liver.
Friar fans are in for a treat this week when Villanova comes to The Dunkin' Donuts Center on Wednesday night. Tickets are still available. For more information, click HERE.
And before you throw in the towel before the game even begins, consider this: The Friars, much in the same position last year (which is to say after-thoughts my many so-called "experts") shocked the college basketball universe with what many think was the upset of the season with a when the topped the Wildcats, 82-76—in Philadelphia, no less—just about a year ago to the date.
