Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 14 points, while Natalie
Achonwa, Candice Dupree and Bentnijah Laney all tallied 11 for the Fever.
The Sun, who led 20-15 at the first turn, took a 22-15 lead
to open the second period after a driving layup by J.J. capped a 9-1 run.
Connecticut never looked back after that. The Fever kept things interesting after
a trey by Achonwa drew Indiana to within three mid-way through the third
period, but Jones and Stricklen answered with back-to-back bombs, sparking an
18-1 Connecticut run. Jones ended the game going 11-for-19 from the field.
With the win, the Sun improve to 11-6. The Fever, who have
lost three straight and are 1-7 over their last eight games, fall to 6-12. The
win also snapped a four-game slide on the road for Connecticut.
Next up for the Sun will be a game with the Atlanta Dream on
Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. and will be
televised on NBA-TV and NESN+. Tickets for all Sun games are available at the
Mohegan Sun Arena box office, by visiting ConnecticutSun.com,

JJ Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Alyssa Thomas will join teammate Jonquel Jones at the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game in Vegas. |
On Monday, Jones was named the WNBA Eastern
Conference Player of the Week. This is the fourth time J.J. has been named PoW
this season, and the seventh time in her illustrious career. In three games
last week, she averaged 16.7 points and 9.3 rebounds while shooting 47.5
percent from the field. Her 26 points vs. Indiana was her high mark for the
season thus far and was the third time she scored 20 or more points this season—and
the 21st time she has done so over the course of her career.
Jones also earned Eastern Conference Player of the Week recognition
three straight weeks in June (June 17, 10 and 3). It was the first time in
franchise history a player had won Player of the Week honors on three
consecutive weeks.
In addition, last week she was named a starter for the 2019 WNBA
All-Star Game to be played on July 27 in Las Vegas. This will be J.J.’s second All-Star
start. She will be joined by teammate Alyssa Thomas who was selected as a
reserve. It will be Thomas’ second All-Star appearance. The game will be
televised live on ABC starting at 3:30 p.m.
