Connecticut Sun Waive Four

Juicy Landrum (20) was one of four players waived by the Connecticut
Sun today. Landrum, who played for 2019 champion Baylor, set an NCAA
women's basketball record by draining 14 3-pointers vs. Arkansas State
this past season.

UNCASVILLE—The Connecticut Sun announced today that they have trimmed four players—Megan Huff, Jacki Gemelos, Jazmon Gwathmey and Juicy Landrum—from their roster. Gwathmey, Gemelos and Huff had been signed to training camp contracts. Landrum, a key member of the 2019 NCAA champion Baylor Lady Bears, was selected in the third round by the Sun (No. 35 overall) in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

Connecticut’s 2020 roster will include seven players returning from the 2019 season and four newcomers. Jonquel Jones, Alyssa Thomas, Jasmine Thomas, Bria Holmes, Brionna Jones, Natisha Hiedeman and Theresa Plaisance are all back from last year’s team that finished with the second-best record in the regular season (23-11), reaching the WNBA Finals where they fell to MVP Elena Delle Donne, Mike Thibault and the Washington Mystics in five games.

Joining the Sun for the first time will be DeWanna Bonner, Briann January, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Kaila Charles. Bonner, January and Mosqueda-Lewis, the former UConn star, were all acquired via free-agency. Charles was selected by the Sun in the second round (No. 23 overall) in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

The Sun are preparing to enter their 18th season at the Mohegan Sun Arena since arriving to Connecticut from Orlando in 2003. The WNBA announced on April 3 that training camp and the 2020 regular season would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has not yet announced when operations would be resumed, nor details on how the league will handle things (fans/no fans, testing players, travel, etc.). The 2020 season had originally been scheduled to start on May 15.
