Veteran forward Lynetta Kizer has been invited to try out for the Sun. |
UNCASVILLE – On
Friday, the Connecticut Sun announced that veteran forward Lynetta Kizer has joined
training camp. To make room on the
15-player training camp roster, the Sun waived center Jennifer Hamson.
In 2014—her most recent season in the WNBA—Kizer made an impression
on the Sun while playing for the Indiana Fever, posting the first double-double
(13 points, 10 rebounds) against Connecticut on June 17 at the Mohegan Sun
Arena. The 6-4, 230-lb. forward, who played collegiately at Maryland, has
averaged 6.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game over her five-year WNBA career
with Tulsa, Phoenix and Indiana. Most recently, Kizer helped lead Olympiacos
Pireus to the Greek league championship over Athinaikos.“We’ve been waiting a long time for Lynetta to arrive,” Connecticut Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said of Kizer. “She brought a lot of energy in her first practice. Brought the communication that we’ve heard so much about from everybody she’s played with. She understands how to play. She is just going to be a fantastic mentor for J.J. (Jonquel Jones) and Morgan (Tuck).”
Tuck, of course, starred at UConn, helping to lead the Huskies to four consecutive national championships during her tenure in Storrs.
The Sun will tip off their 15th season against the Atlanta Dream on May 13 vs. the Atlanta Dream. Game time is 7 p.m., and all fans attending will receive a commemorative Opening Night T-shirt, courtesy of MyPillow. Season tickets are currently on sale, and can be purchased by contacting a sales representative at 877-SUN-TIXX, via e-mail at tickets@connecticutsun.com, or by visiting www.connecticutsun.com.
