Yale had its six-game winning streaked snapped last night when the Bulldogs dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 2 UMass Tuesday night. |
AMHERST, Mass.—Luke Stevens and Robbie DeMontis scored
goals and Sam Tucker made 30 saves as the Yale Men’s Hockey Team lost 5-2 to
No. 2 UMass in a battle of nationally ranked teams at the Mullins Center on Tuesday night. Yale,
which had a six-game unbeaten string and was down 2-0 after 40 minutes, came
out buzzing in the third period with a pair of scores to stun the home squad,
which had a 23-11 advantage in shots over the first two periods.
Andrew Gaus sent a pass back to the point for Chandler
Lindstrand, who fired a shot off the pads of UMass goalie Matt Murray. Stevens
swooped in and grabbed the rebound before tucking it into the back of the net.
DeMontis got the equalizer at 5:17 when Phil Kemp’s shot
from the point bounced off the forward and trickled over the goal line. Joe
Snively picked up the second assist.
The Minutemen answered quickly with their third tally and
then added a power-play goal and an even-strength score to put it away.
The No. 18 Bulldogs, who fall to 7-3-2, now are off until
Dec. 28 when they host the Chinese National Development Team at Ingalls Rink.
UMass, meanwhile, improves to 14-2-0.
