The Bulldogs blew a two-goal lead in the third period and dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 14 Union in overtime. |
Yale junior Robbie DeMontis scored a pair of third-period
goals after Joe Snively had given the Elis (9-7-3, 7-4-1 ECAC) a 1-0 advantage
with his second shorthanded tally of the year in the second frame.
When DeMontis, who matched his career-high with the two
scores, found the net the second time, on an extended power play, the Bulldogs
had an opportunity to put the game away in the third. However, the rest of a five-minute
advantage was wiped away with a Yale penalty and the Dutchmen (12-6-4, 5-5-1)
got their opening to make something happen in the third meeting of nationally
ranked teams.
The Elis, who skated to a 1-1 tie with Union in Ireland in
November before taking a 3-0 game at New Haven in December, got 29 saves from
Sam Tucker.
