Bluefish’s Carpenter Signed by D-Backs




Bluefish closer David Carpenter has had his contract purchased by the
Arizona Diamondbacks. He will report to AA Jackson.
BRIDGEPORT Bridgeport Bluefish team officials announced that closer David Carpenter has had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He will report to Jackson of the Class AA Southern League. He is the fifth Bluefish player to have his contract purchased during the 2017 season.


Carpenter has made 37 appearances with the ‘Fish in 2017, posting an impressive 1.91 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched. He also leads the Atlantic League with 30 saves. In 2016, he made 36 mound appearances before he had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization and was assigned to Salt Lake of the AAA Pacific Coast League.

“Carpenter has done a phenomenal job as our closer this season and last,” said Bluefish General Manager Paul Herrmann. “He is very deserving of this opportunity and we are very happy for him. We’re confident he will be successful with his new team as he strives to make it back to the big leagues.”

Coutinho To Manage in Legends Game

ESPN’s Rich Coutinho has been named manager of the MLB Legends team in the 20th Anniversary Legends Game which will be played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sat., Aug. 5. In the Legends Game, former Bluefish players will take on former MLB players who have spent time with the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, or the New York Mets, in a seven-inning exhibition contest.

Coutinho released his new book, “Press Box Revolution,” in April, and has worked as a reporter for SNY.tv’s MetsBlog as well at WFAM 660AM. He also serves as ESPN radio’s Mets beat reporter.

The Bluefish team will consist of ‘Fish alumni, including Luis Lopez (2008-14), Willie Upshaw (manager, 1998-2000 and 2010-14), Mike Guilfoyle (1998-2003), Matt Iannazzo (2014-16), Mike Porzio (2005-08 and 2010), and Mike Moras (2011-12), among others. The MLB team will consist of former Major Leaguers, including Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez (Yankees, 1998-2002 and 2004; Mets, 2006-07), Dwight “Doc” Gooden (Mets, 1984-94; Yankees, 1996-97 and 2000), Bill “Spaceman” Lee (Red Sox, 1969-78), Keith Foulke (Red Sox, 2004-06), Tim Teufel (Mets, 1986-91). Teufel, currently a minor league instructor for the Mets, is a Greenwich native who starred at St. Mary’s High School and Clemson University before starting his major league career with the Minnesota Twins.
