Yale Falls to Maine in OT

Yale's Dante Palecco lunges at the puck with Maine's Brendan  Robbins during Monday's contest won by
the Black Bears,  4-3 in OT.

PORTLAND, MaineThree different Bulldogs scored goals as the Yale men’s hockey team overcame a 3-1 deficit against Maine to send the game to overtime before falling 4-3 at Cross Insurance Arena. Eduards Trailmaks scored with 47 seconds left in the extra session to give the Black Bears (7-9-2) the non-league victory on Monday.

The No. 19 Bulldogs (7-4-4) opened the scoring 8:17 into the contest when Evan Smith came in on the Maine net and fired shot through the five hole past Maine netminder Jeremy Swayman. That lead only lasted about three minutes, however, as the home team responded with a power-play tally and another score to take a 2-1 advantage into the second.

After Maine bumped the lead up to a pair, Andrew Gaus intercepted a pass in the Black Bear end, skated into the slot and fired top shelf to cut the margin to 3-2 early in the second. Five minutes later, the visitors created another opportunity and cashed in.

Mitchell Smith gloved a bouncing puck in the Yale end, skated the length of the ice and went forehand, stick side for the equalizer.

Sam Tucker, who had 16 saves in first period, finished with 36 stops overall in the Elis’ net.
