WNBA Announces COVID-19 Test Results

NEW YORK—While the WNBA still intends to proceed with its “Season in a Bubble,” the league announced today that tests conducted on 137 WNBA players between June 28-July 5 revealed that seven tested positive for COVID-19.  The names of those players testing positive have not been made public to date.

Players and staff from 11 of the 12 WNBA teams will arrive at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., today.  The lone team not reporting today is the Indiana Fever. The Fever will delay their travel by at least five days in “an abundance of caution” due to the CDC’s close contact self-quarantine requirements.

“Any player who tested positive will remain in self-isolation until she satisfies public health protocols for discontinuing isolation and has been cleared by a physician,” the league said in a statement released this morning.

The WNBA aims to return to action later this month with a shortened 22-game season, all played at the IMG Academy.
