“This is
just my way of giving back,” said Douglas, who played 14 seasons in the WNBA
for the Sun and her homestate Indiana Fever. “The environment around a Connecticut
Sun playoff game is amazing, and this will allow deserving kids to experience
the best the WNBA has to offer.”
Douglas, one
of the greatest three-point shooters in WNBA history, announced her retirement
after 14 seasons on May 1, 2015. KD is the Sun’s all-time leader in made threes,
knocking down 383 treys in a Sun uniform.
From 2003-07,
Douglas averaged 13.4 points per game for the Sun while dishing out 444
assists, making 256 steals and popping in 272 from beyond the arc. The Sun
reached the postseason in each of those five years, and advanced Eastern
Conference finals four times and played in the WNBA Championship Series twice.
Over that span, the Sun posted a 104-64 (.615) record in regular-season games.
In 2007, Douglas set single-season career highs with 577 points, 207 made field
goals, 158 rebounds, 125 assists and 65 steals. She also earned her first two
Eastern Conference All-Star selections in 2006 and 2007. She was the MVP of the
2006 All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden. KD then went home to play with the
Indiana Fever, signing as a free agent in 2008 and playing with the Fever through
2013 before returning to the Sun for her final WNBA season in 2014.
Limited
tickets remain for Sunday’s playoff game against Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix
Mercury. For more information, call 877-SUN-TIXX or visit www.connecticutsun.com.
