UNCASVILLE – In an effort to help those devastated by the flooding in Texas
caused by Hurricane Harvey, the Connecticut Sun Foundation will donate $1 for
every person in attendance at its home playoff game on Sept. 10 to the American
Red Cross. If the game sells out—9,323 fans—the Sun Foundation will round up to
an even $10,000 toward the effort. The Red Cross will also be featured as the
Community Spotlight at the game, and Disaster Relief volunteers will be on the
Mohegan Sun Arena concourse to accept donations.
Tickets for the Sept. 10 game are now on sale a on ConnecticutSun.com and at the Mohegan Sun Arena
Box Office.
“It’s been heartbreaking to watch the last few days unfold and
this tragedy hits particularly close to home for the Sun organization,” Sun vice
president Amber Cox said. “Chiney (Ogwumike) is a Houston native. Curt’s (head
coach Curt Miller) brother lives there. Prior to joining this organization, I
worked for the Houston Dynamo and Dash. It’s a great city, filled with
resilient people. We’re proud to join forces with our fans—who we know will
step up and contribute as well—around our home playoff game to raise funds for
the Red Cross that will support relief efforts.”
Fans can also text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the
Red Cross relief efforts.
Established in 1881, The American Red Cross provides shelter,
food, health and mental services to help communities and families get back on
their feet when disasters strike.
