Another new component of the 2020 schedule is the Commissioner’s Cup. This new event will consist of designating a portion of regular-season games – 10 per team – as counting toward Cup play. Cup games will be the first home game and first road game each team plays against its five conference rivals, all completed from May 15 – July 10 before the WNBA takes a month-long break while many WNBA players participate in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. The Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game is tentatively scheduled to be played on Friday, Aug. 14, two days before regular-season play resumes on Sunday, Aug. 16 following the Olympic break.

During the month of June, Connecticut will host four games in Uncasville. The Sun welcomes New York for the second time of the young season, as well as hosting the Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream. Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird also return to Connecticut with the Storm on Friday, June 5 for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.

The Sun ends the month with a stretch of three road trips; first visiting Atlanta on June 21, Chicago on June 24 and ending it with a stop in Washington, DC, to face the Mystics on June 28. This will be the first contest between the two 2019 WNBA Finals contenders since October 10. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

In July, the Sun competes in four games before the 2020 Olympic break. On July 5, Connecticut hosts the Mystics at 3 p.m. On July 8, the team hosts Atlanta at 11:30 a.m. for its 3rd Annual Camp Day. Connecticut has two road games in July, including July 2 in New York and July 10 in Indiana. The Sun’s game on July 2 at New York is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.

Upon return from the Olympics, where the United States Women’s National Team will be in pursuit of its 7th consecutive Gold Medal, the Sun will resume the season on Aug. 16against the Minnesota Lynx. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena and will be televised on ESPN.

Connecticut opens the month with a home game against Dallas on Tuesday, Sept. 1 before starting the hefty road trip. The first leg of the trip will be in Minnesota on Sept. 4 and Dallas on Sept. 6.  The Sun then have back-to-back games against Las Vegas and Phoenix on Sept. 8and 9. They close out the stretch on Sept. 11 in Seattle.
