Bria Holmes Re-Ups With Sun

to the Sun for the 2020 season.

UNCASVILLE—Playing in her home state was always her preference, and today the Connecticut Sun announced that Bria Holmes has committed to return for the 2020 season. Holmes averaged 6.3 points in 16 minutes of play per game last season for the Sun.

Holems, who played in college at West Virginia, was a key ingredient in Connecticut’s run to the 2019 WNBA Finals. She returned to the WNBA in 2019 after taking the 2018 season off after giving birth to her daughter.

Over her three-year career, Holmes, who hails from New Haven, has averaged 7.2 points per game, shooting 40 percent from the field, while averaging 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists. In addition, she dropped in her 600th career point in 2019.

Selected No. 11 overall by the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the 2016 WNBA Draft, the 6-1 guard was acquired by the Sun for the No. 15 pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft and a second-round selection in 2019.

“Connecticut, I’m back! Nothing is more exciting than being back in my home state playing in front of my daughter, family and friends,” Holmes said. “I can’t wait to get back to work and continue to grow as a basketball player and teammate. I’m ready to compete and bring a championship back to Connecticut.

“I’m elated to have Bria back and am beyond grateful for her faith in me and her commitment to the Sun,” head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “She has only scratched the surface of her potential and I can’t wait to see what she does in an expanded role with us in 2020. She adds another versatile and dynamic player to our talented roster. Bria is a Connecticut high school legend and is staying home to try to help lead her home state to its first WNBA title,” Miller added. “Not many story lines get better than that.”

The 2020 Sun campaign tips off on May 16 vs. the New York Liberty at 7 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena. For tickets and information, visit ConnecticutSun.com.
