Bobcats Earn No. 11 Seed

The Quinnipiac Bobcats earned their fifth NCAA Tournament bid and will open
up play on Thursday vs. North Dakota State in Jacksonville.

HAMDEN—The Quinnipiac women's basketball team is set for its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bobcats punched their ticket to the 2019 NCAA Tournament by throttling the Marist Red Foxes in the MAAC Championship with an 81-51 victory on Monday. Quinnipiac has won 52 consecutive games against MAAC opponents and is riding a 21-game overall winning streak into the tournament, the second longest winning streak in the nation.

Redshirt senior Jen Fay was named the Most Outstanding Player of the MAAC Tournament for the second consecutive season while seniors Aryn McClure and Paula Strautmane garnered All-MAAC Tournament honors.

Quinnipiac's NCAA Tournament appearance is its fifth overall and third straight after making it in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018. The Bobcats have earned NCAA Tournament victories in two straight seasons after reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 2017. Overall, the Bobcats are 3-4 in NCAA Tournament games.

Last season as a No. 9 seed, the Bobcats defeated No. 8 seed Miami in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before facing the No. 1 UConn Huskies at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, for just the second time since joining the Division I level in 1998-99.

The Bobcats and Jackrabbits will face off on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with the winner moving on to the second round to face the winner of No. 3 Syracuse and No. 14 Fordham. The winner of the second-round matchup will move on to the Sweet Sixteen with those games played in Portland, OR, the following weekend.

The Bobcats were selected as an No. 11 seed and will take on the No. 6 South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Syracuse. The Bobcats’ 11-seed is its second-highest in program history after earning a No. 9 seed in last season's NCAA Tournament. The other matchup in Syracuse features the No. 3 Syracuse Orange hosting the No. 14 Fordham Rams. All three games at Syracuse will be played inside the Carrier Dome.
