UNCASVILLE—The Connecticut Sun announced yesterday that Emma Cannon has been waived. Signed by the Sun as a free agent on April 11, Cannon appeared in all three Sun preseason games. She had three points and one assist.
Cannon spent the 2017 season with the Phoenix Mercury, where she was a teammate of UConn legend Diana Taurasi. There, she appeared in all 24 games, averaging 4.4 points per and pulling down 3.6 rebounds per contest.
In other Sun news, late last week the team announced that Awvee Storey has been hired as video coordinator. Storey spent the 2017 season as an assistant coach wit the Chicago Sky before serving as an assistant with the Capital City Go-Go in the G League in 2018.

A native of Chicago, Storey spent his freshman year of college at Illinois before transferring to Arizona State. A Pac-10 Honorable Mention honoree during the 2000-01 season, he averaged career-highs of 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds that season.

Storey spent three seasons in the NBA as a member of the New Jersey Nets (2004-05), Washington Wizards (2005-06) and Milwaukee Bucks (2007-08) and with the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League in 2006-07. He also played internationally in New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Germany and China. Following his playing career, Storey joined the Washington Wizards as a video coordinator before moving to the WNBA with the Mystics in 2011, where he assisted with scouting, workouts and player development.

“Awvee is a fantastic addition to our coaching staff,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said.  “He has multiple years of experience in professional basketball including the WNBA and has a unique gift in relating to players at this level.  He will work directly with our post players and play a large role in overall player development. Awvee will also serve in our video coordinator role and have scouting responsibilities.”

The Sun will open the 2019 WNBA season against the Washington Mystics this Saturday, May 25. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.
