WNBA Announces 20-Game Twitter Livestream Schedule For 2019 Season

By Bob Phillips

NEW YORK—The WNBA has announced its schedule of 20 live regular-season games to be streamed on Twitter during the 2019 season. This marks the third consecutive year that WNBA games will be available on Twitter via @WNBA.

Connecticut’s team, the Sun, will lead off Twitter’s schedule on May 25 when they open the season against the Washington Mystics at 7:30 p.m. ET. Twitter’s second game will feature the Los Angeles Sparks, who recently acquired former Sun star Chiney Ogwiumke, the following evening at 8 p.m. ET. The league’s Twitter schedule features 14 games on Tuesdays—including doubleheaders on July 30 (Phoenix-Washington at 7 p.m. ET followed by Dallas-Las Vegas at 10 p.m. ET) and Aug. 20 (Chicago-Atlanta at 7 p.m. ET and Phoenix-Las Vegas at 10 p.m. ET). The Sun will make a second appearance on Twitter when they travel to the West Coast to challenge the Seattle Storm on August 27 at 10 p.m. ET.

Former UConn star and record 11-time All-Star Sue Bird and the defending WNBA champion Seattle will make four appearances on Twitter this season, including a matchup against the 2017 WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx, led by former league MVP Sylvia Fowles, on Tuesday, June 4.
Of course, another UConn legend, Breanna Stewart, also plays for the Storm. But Stewie, the reigning WNBA MVP, will miss the 2019 season as she recovers from a ruptured right Achilles tendon. And the Lynx will be playing without yet another UConn superstar, Maya Moore, who is sitting out 2019 to focus on ministry.
Which isn’t to say the WNBA’s Twitter schedule will be without star power. Indeed, 10 games on the social media giant’s schedule will sport former MVPs, including the Washington’s Elena Delle Donne, Fowles, the Los Angeles Sparks’ Candace Parker and the Ogwumike sisters—Chiney and Nneka—and former UConn star Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury. Las Vegas, led by reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year A’ja Wilson and 2019 No. 1 overall draft pick Jackie Young, will be featured six times, as will Atlanta.
Entering its 23rd season, the WNBA tips off Friday, May 24. Every WNBA team will make at least two appearances on Twitter this season. WNBA games will also be available this season on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, CBS Sports Network, NBA TV and WNBA League Pass.
