STORRS—The
University of Connecticut has announced several opponents and dates on the
football schedule next season, the Huskies’ first as an independent after
leaving the American Athletic Conference. And guess what? It’s not so bad.
On the schedule are some pretty well-known teams like Mississippi
of the powerful SEC. There will also be games against Illinois and Indiana (Big
Ten), Virginia (ACC) and San Jose State. The schedule also includes rivalries
with local and regional schools UMass, Maine and Army. The final school lined
up thus far is Liberty College of Lynchburg, Vir. Three dates remain to be
filled.
The schedule as of today is (All Times and TV TBD):
- Thurs., Sept. 3, vs. UMass (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford)
- Sat., Sept. 12, at Illinois (Memorial Stadium, Champaign, Ill.)
- Sat., Sept. 26, vs. Indiana (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford)
- Sat., Oct. 24, at Ole Miss (Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, Miss.)
- Sat., Oct. 31, vs. Liberty (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford)
- Sat., Nov. 14, at San Jose State (CEFCU Stadium, San Jose, Calif.)
- Sat. Nov. 28, vs. Army (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford)
- TBA, vs. Maine (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford)
- TBA, at Virginia (Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, Va.)
Most of UConn’s teams will be joining The Big East in 2020.
However, there is no football in The Big East, which means Connecticut will be
playing as an independent until (or if) an organized conference invites the
Huskies to join.
