BRIDGEPORT—The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, American Hockey
League affiliate of the New York Islanders, have announced the team's
season-opening roster for its 19th AHL campaign. The roster is comprised of 19
forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders as the Sound Tigers prepare to
open the 2019-20 campaign tomorrow night against the Springfield
Thunderbirds at MassMutual Center.
Of the 31 players on the initial roster, 23 have previously worn the Sound Tigers sweater in at least one regular season game. The roster also includes 21 players on an NHL contract with the New York Islanders and six former first-round draft picks: Steve Bernier (2003, San Jose), Thomas Hickey (2007, Los Angeles), Josh Ho-Sang (2014, Islanders), Kieffer Bellows (2016, Islanders), Oliver Wahlstrom (2018, Islanders) and Simon Holmstrom (2019, Islanders).
Among the 10 AHL rookies, Holmstrom, 18, is the youngest player on the squad (May 24, 2001). Erik Brown, Arnaud Durandeau, Grant Hutton, Mason Jobst, Ryan MacKinnon, David Quenneville, Linus Soderstrom, Yanick Turcotte and Wahlstrom make up the other first-year players. The Sound Tigers season-opening roster also contains five veterans: Bernier, Ryan Bourque, Seth Helgeson, Hickey and Colin McDonald.
Furthermore, the roster features 4,814 games of AHL experience and 1,442 games of NHL experience (12 players).

The Sound Tigers open their 19th AHL season tomorrow night when they will challenge the Springfield Thunderbirds, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, at MassMutual Center in Springfield. Fans can follow all of the live action via the Sound Tigers Radio Network and AHLTV, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. The Sound Tigers will then take on the Hartford Wolf Pack (Rangers) at the XL Center on Sunday. First puck drops at 3 p.m.
After a two-game jaunt to Charlotte next weekend to take on the Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes), the Sound Tigers finally open the home portion of their season on Sat., Oct. 19, when they will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh). First puck drops at 7 p.m.
Earlier this week, the Sound Tigers named Brent Rossi as President of Business Operations. Rossi joins the Sound Tigers from Pegula Sports and Entertainment (PSE), which manages the business operations for upstate New York properties, including the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Americans. He served as Executive Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy and led all marketing functions at PSE for the past five years. He has also helped lead marketing initiatives for the Harlem Globetrotters, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the Philadelphia 76ers and Comcast-Spectacor.
In April 2018, Rossi was selected to Sports Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” list for his success in business and innovation.
“Brent will be a great addition to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers,” Islanders President of Business Operations Travis Williams said. “He has a proven track record of success in leadership positions with other sports and entertainment organizations and will use those experiences to help us continue to build a top tier AHL business operation in Bridgeport. We are excited to welcome Brent to the Sound Tigers family.”
