BRIDGEPORT—The Fifth Annual Sound
Tigers 5K Run or Walk presented by Subway will take place this Sunday, Oct.
6, with proceeds benefitting The American Cancer Society, Seymour Pink &
The Get In Touch Foundation. The course will begin and end at the Webster
Bank Arena and will take participants along Long Island Sound through Seaside
Park. The Sound Tigers 5K Run/Walk will commence at 9 a.m. It will be preceded
by the Sound Tigers Kids Club Run (weather permitting) around the outside of
the arena at 8:45 a.m.
The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement unites communities to support each other. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the U.S. and is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death among women. We honor those touched by the disease and raise awareness and funds as we take steps closer to a world without breast cancer. With the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer, we’re delivering breakthrough breast cancer research, supporting patients and caregivers through every step of their cancer journey, and so much more. We encourage all 5K participants to also join us on Sunday, October 20th at Sherwood Island State Park for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Fairfield County. To join the walk, visit MakingStridesWalk.org/FairfieldCountyCT or call 203.563.1513. For cancer information and support, go to Cancer.org or call 1.800.227.2345.
The Get In Touch Foundation is non-profit specifically focused on providing free and accessible information, empowering all to make breast health simple, appropriate, and routine. It is an established local organization with a global reach. The Daisy Wheel tool educates on the 8 simple steps of how to perform a breast self-exam.
Seymour Pink works to support breast cancer patients and their families to help them maintain balance as they undergo treatments. Seymour Pink currently serves thirty-nine communities in Connecticut including Shelton, Derby, Trumbull, and Monroe. They continue to expand and add additional towns into their network of support. Their budget comes completely from donations, and they are a completely volunteer based organization. Seymour Pink has raised over $2 million dollars in the fight against Breast Cancer, has made substantial donations to Yale Smilow Cancer Institute and Hewitt's Breast Cancer Center at Griffin Hospital, and has awarded several scholarships to local high school students whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.
