EAST HARTFORD—Sebastian
Dalgaard scored his first goal of the season as Hartford Athletic
earned a
point in their second consecutive USL Championship contest with a 1-1 draw with
the Ottawa Fury at Rentschler Field Saturday night.
Hartford (1-9-2), which won its first USL Championship
contest of the season last week with a 2-1 win over Loudon FC in Washington,
D.C., followed that up with another point in the draw with Ottawa. The Athletic
began the season with eight straight losses and a 0-9-1 record in their first
10 games in their initial season as a team. However, the Athletic are 1-1-2 in
their last four USL championship games and play four of their next five games at
Rentschler Field while renovations continue at Dillon Stadium, the team’s
permanent home.
Trailing 1-0, Dalgaard made a long throw in into the Ottawa
penalty box but a Fury defender headed it out of the box and right back to
Dalgaard at the side of the penalty area. He took a step and fired a hard
ground ball that just got into the far corner of the net past Ottawa goalie
Callum Irving to tie the game at 1-1 early in the second half.
Ottawa (5-2-3) took a 1-0 lead with 22 minutes gone in the
game after Elhadji Mour Samb belted a bouncing ball out of the air past
Hartford goalie Frederick Due. Ottawa’s Christiano Francois faked out a
Hartford defender and sent a nice cross into the box. The ball was deflected to
Mour Samb.
Fury FC took the lead in the 22nd minute when forward Kevin
Oliveira’s effort after a Christiano François cross popped up in the air,
leaving forward Elhadji Mour Samb to pick it out of the air and beat Athletic
goalkeeper Frederik Due.
Hartford returns to action on Sat. June 1 when the Athletic
host North Carolina at 7 p.m. at Rentschler Field.
