DANBURY--Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse midfielder Max Tuttle
has been named a
USILA Third Team All-America, as voted by the nation's Division I head coaches. Tuttle is the first Pioneer to earn the All-America nod to the Division I team.
"I couldn't be happier for Max, as his hard work and dedication to the game of lacrosse is being recognized," said Pioneers head coach Jonathan Basti. "He is one of many special players that we have at SHU and his recognition at this elite level is testament to the culture of program that he is a part of and has helped build."
Tuttle scored 58 points during his senior season that earned him Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Second Team honors and All-New Englad team selection in the past week. He tallied 39 goals and handed out a single-season career-high 19 assists in 15 games. Tuttle finished the season ranked 38th in the nation in points per game (3.87) and 31st in goals per game (2.60).
Tuttle tied his career-high with eight points (six goals, two assists) and 11 ground balls in a win over Furman earlier this season and was named to the NEC All-Tournament Team following his five-point output in the NEC semifinals against Hobart. He finishes his storied SHU career as the program's all-time leading goal scorer (134) and with the second-most points (198) in program history.
After earning 2018 NEC Player of the Year honors last season, Tuttle became the program's first Division I student-athlete to earn All-America recognition, with Honorable Mention last season.
All-ECAC, Too
In addtion, Tuttle has been named to the 2019 All-ECAC First Team. With this latest individual honor, Tuttle completes his career as easily the most-decorated Pioneer in program history.
