BRIDGEPORT—Yes, it’s not yet summer (by a long
shot), and yes, the AHL and NHL playoffs are still in progress, but that doesn’t
mean it’s too early for Connecticut sports fans to start thinking hockey. Far
from it. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers,
one of our state’s two American Hockey League
teams (along with the Hartford
Wolf Pack), announced that its home opener will be on Saturday, Oct. 19
at Webster Bank Arena. (Opponents
and start times will be announced later this summer, as will the Sound Tigers’ 2019-2020
promotional schedule.)
The Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of
the New York Islanders, enjoyed an outstanding
regular season in 2018-19, finishing with the-fifth best record overall in the league.
In fact, the 95 points amassed by Bridgeport represents the best regular-season
total since the 2008-09 campaign for the franchise.
Bridgeport also earned home-ice
advantage in a playoff series for the first time since 2006, and totaled 57
points (26-7-3-2) in home games, tied with the Charlotte Checkers and Syracuse
Crunch for the best home record in the league. (Charlotte, which finished first
in the Atlantic Division—in which both Bridgeport and Hartford play in—has advanced
to this year’s AHL semifinal series where the Checkers will play the Toronto Marlies.)
“The Sound Tigers were one of the
[AHL’s] best teams at home this past season,” Sound Tigers president Michael
Picker said. “We’re confident that 2019-20 will be even better as we continue
to grow on our successes on and off the ice.”
In October, Bridgeport will commence
on its 17th voyage in the Park City. The Sound Tigers, playing their home games
at the Webster Bank Arena, are currently offering season tickets and flex plans
for the 2019-20 campaign, as well as full-season, 20-game, or 10-game options.
Season- and partial-plan subscribers receive exclusive benefits, including the
ticket holder exchange policy. For more information on Sound Tigers full-season
