NEW BRITAIN—The New Britain Bees (17-13) took both games of
a single-admission doubleheader over the York Revolution (11-21) at New Britain
Stadium on Wednesday, taking game one 2-0 while coming away victorious in game
two by the final of 8-6 as both contests lasted seven innings of play. New
Britain has now won eight consecutive games and ten of their last 11 overall
while also improving to 16-10 in the month of May and 6-0 on their current
seven-game homestand.
In game one, New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (3-2) fired a complete
game shutout, retiring 21 of the 23 batters he faced in seven innings on the
mound, striking out four. In his 2019 and Atlantic League debut, York starting
pitcher Corey Walter (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits
(one home run) in four innings of work, walking and striking out one.
New Britain sent eight men to the plate versus Walter in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring three runs to open up a 3-0 advantage, highlighted by an RBI double produced by Bijan Rademacher and a two-run home run to right field off the bat of Logan Moore, his first roundtripper in a Hardware City uniform. Rademacher made it 4-0 in favor of the home team in the third with an RBI infield base knock, and the Bees plated two more runs in the last of the sixth to give the game its final score of 6-0 thanks to back to back run-scoring base hits from Jason Rogers and Jonathan Galvez. Galvez, Rademacher, and Alejandro De Aza each had a pair of hits en route to the victory.
In game two, New Britain starting pitcher Jed Bradley did not factor in the final outcome of the contest, surrendering six runs on seven hits (one home run) in four innings on the bump, walking two and striking out four. York starting pitcher Ian Thomas also registered a no-decision in the ballgame despite allowing just one run on two hits in four innings pitched, walking and striking out two.
